Frustrated

Sorry folks, but I need a little bit of a vent session. Pointless assignments that don't have you learning anything, I don't see the point of. Don't worry, I'm not talking about this class. In another one of my classes we were encouraged to go to a job fair recently. I did not partake because, as all of you know from this blog, I have accepted a position to start when I graduate in December. Now what would I get out of a job fair that has numerous firms hiring for January? Absolutely nothing, so that is why I chose to stay home and study for a test that I had the next day. But, us students that have jobs, that didn't go to the job fair are being penalized by having to write a 3 page paper on why we didn't go. This is one of the most pointless assignments I have ever been assigned. Why do I need to explain myself in 3 pages? It is simple, "I have a job already so I did not go." I don't know what else there is to say. I don't feel that there was a reason to skip a day of classes, drive to the cities, spend money to go to the job fair, and miss out on study time for a big test the following day. So, needless to say in my paper, I vented, and argued the fact of, in the future, forcing students that already have a job, to go to a job fair.

  1. I can understand your frustration Abby. You weren't in need of a job and had a big test to study for. Therefore the job fair appeared as an annoyance and pointless. I know I would not of liked driving to the cities and spending money all for a homework assignment. However, I'm sure your teacher was just wanting you to experience how the job fair worked and not to get a job up there. I think a better solution would've been to contact your instructor and explain your situation before simply blowing off the assignment. Hopefully your teacher allows you to make up some of the points you missed out on.

  2. I have a class that drives me nuts too and it is not this one. There are many assignments that I have to do while working 50 hours weeks. I just do not have the time anymore. Now that one of my tellers left, I am even more short staffed that I have to open 4 times per week which means working from 7 am to 6:30 pm those days. So I understand how frustrating must be to have to worry about another assignment that it is meanly just two sentences instead of a 3 page paper. Focus on the finish line, that is what I have been doing lately. Good luck

  3. Wow Abby! I cannot believe that a professor would do that! I know that I have had what I felt, were meaningless assignments, but that probably tops anything I can think of. Someone the other day said to me that half the time it seems as if college is all about just trying to please the professors, which sadly seems true in some classes. I just remember to keep pushing and think that it will all be worth it somehow in the end. Good luck with this crazy situation!
